Unboxing & Accessories
The Kilowatt comes in a grey package that sports the brand name. At the bottom of the front cover, there are the words “The Sound Of Soul Luminox Audio Hi-Fi Earphone cable”. There is a sticker at the side of the box which shows the cable terminations. After removing the cover, there is the Kilowatt seated nicely on top of maroon-colored sponge with a white cable wrap. Below the sponge, there is a soft black pouch with the brand name printed on it.
Cable Build & Design
The cable is made of OCC and it has a 6 core braided design. The Kilowatt I will be reviewing has 2 pins 0.78mm connectors and 2.5mm balanced jack. The cable can be customized in many ways subject to the availability of the component. Each conductor has a PVC jacket insulation. Each connector has a silver housing with blue and red stripe on the left and right side respectively. There is grip on the connectors. There is a memory wire area section in which the cable is enclosed in a translucent heat shrink tube. There is a metal inside to form the shape.The chin slider is translucent clear and the y-splitter has a grey housing with the brand name printed on it. Lastly, the jack is 2.5mm balanced straight gold plated. It has a grey housing with a red stripe and grip. There is strain relief.
Sound Analysis (Compared to Stock Cable)
Lows
The sub-bass has slightly more quantity with its extension maintained. The sub-bass reproduction contributes to a fuller performance due to the extra weight. There is a luscious bass presentation. The mid-bass has slightly more body and the slam is soothing to listen to. Bass decay takes a slight step back with a slower speed. Bass texture is rendered more smoothly.
Mids
The midrange benefits greatly and it sounds more full-bodied. The lower mids thicken and male vocals are expressed in a robust manner. The body allows it to be portrayed well. The upper mids has similar forwardness and crisp. However, it improves with smoothness and it keeps female vocals under control. There is good maturity and the intimacy level is great. Vocals are presented well with emotions.
Highs
The treble is extended similarly with additional body. There is no sibilance and harshness. The amount of air rendered is similar. Crisp and sparkle are retained. Each treble note is articulated with more musicality. It helps to improve the overall finesse and the treble is very relaxing to listen to. There is an organic performance with a nice creamy feeling.
Soundstage
The stage expansion benefits and there is an increased naturalness. The width magnitude slightly increases and the depth is more closed in. There is extra precision for the positioning of instruments and vocals.
Conclusion
The Kilowatt is a warm sounding copper cable that is able to elevate the sound with additional smoothness for a full-bodied performance. The presentation has good lushness. The Luminox Audio Kilowatt showcases musicality well.
