Unboxing & Accessories
The Day For Night comes in a wooden package that sports the brand name. Below the brand, there are the words “The Sound Of Soul”. There is a sticker at the side of the box which shows the cable terminations. After removing the cover, there is the Day For Night seated nicely on top of maroon-colored sponge with a white cable wrap. There is a soft black pouch with the brand name printed on it and warranty card.
Cable Build & Design
The cable has a 4 core braided design. The Day For Night I will be reviewing has 2 pins 0.78mm connectors and 2.5mm balanced jack. The cable can be customized in many ways subject to the availability of the component. Each conductor has a PVC jacket insulation. Each connector has a silver housing with blue and red stripe on the left and right side respectively. There is grip on the connectors. There is a memory wire area section in which the cable is enclosed in a translucent heat shrink tube. There is a metal inside to form the shape. The chin slider is translucent clear and the y-splitter has a silver housing with carbon fibre design. Lastly, the jack is 2.5mm balanced straight rhodium plated. It has a silver housing with carbon fibre design. There is strain relief.
Sound Analysis
Lows
The sub-bass has similar quantity and the extension increases with more magnitude. The sub-bass reproduction improves with a greater tightness and it demonstrates a strong control without sounding aggressive. The mid-bass faces an increase in its quantity and the slam has more mastery. The bass decay maintains a similar speed while the bass texture is rendered with additional smoothness. The bass performance has experienced greater finesse.
Mids
The midrange takes on a more velvety approach and there is great texture. There is an elevation of cleanliness with similar transparency. The lower mids keeps its body but male vocals are presented in a more emotional manner. The upper mids improves with extra quantity which results in an organic presentation. It helps to add control to the female vocals reproduction and there is a fuller performance. The level of intimacy increases to a higher standard.
Highs
The treble is maintained with lovely smoothness and slightly better extension. There is no sibilance and harshness. The amount of air rendered has an extra amount which helps to give an airier feeling. Treble articulation has more precision. The crisp and sparkle improve slightly. It contributes to the treble presentation by introducing some bite.
Soundstage
There is a more natural expansion while the width magnitude increases tremendously and gives a spacious feeling. The depth is slightly more closed in to improve the overall intimacy. Positioning of instruments and vocals is accurate.
Conclusion
The Day For Night is a detailed sounding hybrid cable that is able to deliver a remarkable soundstage that gives a spacious feel and contributes to the overall musicality. It has the ability to tighten the sound which demonstrates its impressive finesse. The Luminox Audio Day For Night is a nice cable for those who wish for greater soundstage and mellow expression.
