Sound Analysis

Lows

The XD-10 Poke has moderate sub-bass extension and it showcases great technicality. The quantity is fair. Bass decay has a moderate speed and the agility is able to handle pacy tracks. The rumble is expressed quite naturally. Each bass note is articulated with sufficient impact and there is a constant punch. The mid-bass takes on a lighter approach and the slam is expressed in a precise manner. The bass commands good definition with a detailed yet controlled performance. When the bass switch is on, there is greater bass quantity and the extension increases slightly.

Mids

The midrange is quite balanced and it is rendered in a clean manner. There is good transparency and details retrieval is excellent. The lower mids does not take on a thick manner in tackling male vocals as there is moderate body. Male vocals are expressed well without any hollow feeling. The upper mids has little forwardness with great crisp and definition. Female vocals are presented in a smooth manner with moderate intimacy. There are no signs of aggression. The presentation is quite natural.

Highs

The treble has moderate extension with no sibilance and harshness. There is good details retrieval and clarity is showcased well. The amount of air rendered is moderate and this helps to lighten the overall presentation. The treble has a controlled presentation and the articulation is not over-emphasized. There is a good balance of body and accuracy. The sparkle is lacking slightly to provide the extra bite.

Soundstage

The XD-10 Poke has a natural expansion in its stage width with a great magnitude. There is minimal congestion when tackling busier tracks. The depth has good space so it is not too closed in. Positioning of instruments and vocals is quite accurate.

Conclusion

The XD-10 Poke is a balanced sounding DAC/AMP that boasts a clinical performance without compromising on the musicality aspect. It is able to provide a fatigue-free listening session with good details retrieval. In addition, it has an unique design and there is a variety of accessories provided.
